Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil currently has a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, making it the highest-rated video game movie after more than 80 reviews.
Video game movies are all the rage right now. Minecraft, Super Mario Bros., and Sonic the Hedgehog have all had pretty successful outings in theaters. Even some less successful outings, such as Monster Hunter, have made it to the big screen.
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is set to officially release in theaters this Friday, but its Rotten Tomatoes score and more than 80 reviews paint a picture of a fun time at the movies.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Holds 96% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Resident Evil series has a history of big-screen adaptations, beginning with the first film release in 2002. This latest movie is an original adaptation. Cregger emphasizes that his film is filled with a genuine love for the franchise. He aims to create the kind of Resident Evil movie he’s always wanted to see. He’s said he hadn’t watched any previous Resident Evil films because he felt they didn’t accurately capture the essence of the franchise.
One film review praises Cregger for making a video game movie “that honors its source without seeming beholden to it.”
That doesn’t mean all fans are satisfied with the idea of the story not covering one of the video games’ plots. Cregger recently came out and apologized to those expecting a Leon-led movie, admitting he underestimated the desire for such a film.
